A Big Blog!

Sorry it's been so long since I've posted anything. Trying to slow things down for October before the holidays start next month!

One of the things Carleigh did in September was attend a water babies class. There were supposed to be 2 other kids in it but they never came, so Carleigh had free reign of the pool. There was an instructor named Shawn and either I or Grandpa Len would be in the pool with her. She would do back floats, Supermans (front floats), bounce across the pool, and dunk her head in the water. That last one she didn't like as much but she got better at it as the class progressed. Here's a picture of her peeking over the edge of the pool at Grandma Mary.

On October 3rd through 5th, we were at Thunderhill Speedway in Willows, Ca (south of Redding) so Dan could drive the Miata on the race course. We were there with our friend Randy, who races a Miata for prize money, which is not the same as what Dan was doing. Dan is progressing through the different driving levels toward his racing license. It's a little safer than motocross but it's a much more expensive hobby. By the way, anyone want to buy a dirt bike?? :-) Here's a picture of Dan & Carleigh hanging out at the track when we were watching Randy race. She still likes her front pack; she was giggling and squeeling the whole time she was in it!

On October 6th, Carleigh went for her 1 year check up and shots! Poor little thing, it was very sad. But she's great otherwise. She's growing along her own curve, not anyone elses, and she's where she's supposed to be developmentally. She's 16 pounds 4 ounces and 28 inches long. We're still working her on calling us "mama" and "dada" but she's selective about it. Right now, she likes to point and grunt when she wants something, and cries when she doesn't get it.

She graduated from the infant car seat to a big kid seat because she's outgrown the one by length. Carleigh and I went shopping today with Grandpa Danny and Grandma Susan for a new car seat, since they needed one also. She hasn't ridden in the new one yet because we just installed it this evening.

She has 2 teeth in on the bottom and I think she's working on one on the top, but she won't let me look. She's taking many more steps both on her own and assisted. While she's been at Grandpa Danny's and Grandma Susan's, she's figured out a way to go up and down steps unassisted, but under watchful eye. She has applied that knowledge to getting off the couch. She uses her Dora chair to climb onto the couch! Crawling is still a faster mode of transportation and being carried is always preferred! We're on our 3rd day of transitioning out of the bottle to the cup. It's okay so far and hopefully each following day will be better.

Carleigh is the biggest helper, as most toddlers are. I was loading the dishwasher as she was emptying my tupperware cabinet. She apparently felt the need to put a tupperware container in the diswasher and this is the picture I got. Needless to say, it really did end up in the dishwasher because I later found it floating in the dogs water dish.

Whew! What a busy month so far. And Halloween isn't here yet! I'm trying to get some video of Carleigh doing all her new stuff but she'd rather play with the camera than perform for it!
